Caveau du Val d'Amour

Jura - Arbois

Sylvain Jacquot farms a tiny 1.5 hectares of vineyards around the famous town of Arbois, where the wines need little introduction. Although Sylvain has been making fantastic wines here in both the oxidative and topped up styles for many years, it is only in the last few years that he has started selling his wines outside the local area. We are delighted to be able to present these wines to UK wine lovers for the first time.

Sylvain works with the classic grape varieties, Chardonnay, Savagnin

Pinot Noir, Poulsard and Trousseau. His grapes come from organically farmed vineyards that he inherited from his father, with most of the vines being between 40-100 years old. The parcels are located in the communes of Buvilly, Arbois, Montigny lès Arsures and Chamoz. In the winery, Sylvain’s wines ferment spontaneously and don’t require additions.

The whites are made in a range of styles from Ouillé (topped up barrels), to slightly oxidative wines with a small percentage of non topped up wines added to fully oxy Jura for those who love a large slab of comté with their nutty, briney, aldehydic nectar. These wines feel like they could live forever!

The reds are beautifully transparent and silky. We were blown away by the Trousseau which we tasted over a few days. Seriously dense and focussed red fruit, sweet and sour, super clean and long. These wines reminded us of the reds from growers like de la Tournelle, Pelican, Tissot and Ganevat.
